Do you know what to do when you are in a parking lot accident? Some of the time they are not even your fault and you don't even know what happend in a `Hit and Run`. So what can you do, and what are you supposed to do?
Back in 2003, I came out of Sams Club one evening and there was a car backedup right against mine. I waited for the customer to come out of Sams Club and filed a police report; security came and I got the required information from her of Name, Proof of Insurance and Drivers License.
These three things you need in order to successfully file an insurance claim:
Their Drivers License
Proof of Insurance
In my situation above, I was able to file a claim against her insurance under Property Protection Insurance (PPI) because I am in the state of Michigan and we carry a No-Fault statute. Everyone in the state of Michigan carries at least $1,000,000 of Property Protection. I had to contact the womans insurance company and I was able to file a claim and they payed $1,400 with a rental car.
If it was a `Hit and Run` you will have to turn the claim into your insurance company and would only be covered if you have Collision Coverage.
If my car was not parked it would of been a `Hit and Run` and I wouldn't of been covered. I got lucky because I waited for her to come out. If it was a `Hit and Run` you will have to turn the claim into your insurance company and would only be covered if you have Collision Coverage.
